The city of Lincoln has settled two gender discrimination suits brought by female firefighters totaling $900,000. The suits were brought by firefighter Amanda Benson in 2018 and Jessie Lundvall in 2022.

The Seventh Circuit has upheld a physical abilities test used by the Madison Fire Department despite the fact it creates a disparate impact on female candidates. The suit was brought by Catherine Erdman, a Janesville firefighter who failed the Madison physical abilities test in 2014.

The former fire chief of the Hagerman Fire District has filed suit against the district and its board of directors alleging gender discrimination, hostile workplace, and retaliation under state and federal law. Nicole Pannhurst filed suit in US District Court alleging violations of Title VII, New York’s Human Rights Law, and civil rights violations under 42 USC § 1983.

Two women who failed the Cleveland Fire Department’s physical abilities test in 2017, have filed suit alleging gender discrimination. Yolanda McKay and Christine Scott filed suit in US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio alleging a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Kay’Ana Adams filed suit today in US District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

A $425,000 settlement has been reached in a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by a former firefighter in Harrison, New York. The lawsuit was filed last year by the US Department of Justice on behalf of Angela Bommarito, naming Town of Harrison, its police chief, Harrison Volunteer Fire Department No. 1, and Fire District Number Two of Harrison.
