More LA Firefighters Join SoCalGas Suit

A lawsuit filed last October by 29 Los Angeles firefighters against Southern California Gas Company is in the headlines again as word that additional firefighters are continuing to sign on to the suit. The suit alleges SoCalGas knowingly exposed the firefighters to hazardous levels of toxins like benzene and formaldehyde during a leak in 2015-2016 in Aliso Canyon, but concealed the dangers.

Orange County Fire Authority Sued For Retaliation

Two California dispatchers who were terminated last year, have filed suit accusing the Orange County Fire Authority, a deputy chief and the dispatch center manager of unlawfully retaliating against them for raising legitimate concerns. Fire Communication Supervisor Megan Soman claims she was terminated after expressing her dissatisfaction with the termination of one of her subordinates, Travis Fader.

The widow of a Wisconsin firefighter killed in a massive gas explosion in July has filed suit against four companies alleged to have contributed to the blast. Sun Prairie Fire Captain Cory Barr was killed and several other firefighters injured in the explosion that followed a natural gas leak caused when contractor struck a gas main.

Greek Wildland Fire Prompts Lawsuit

A wildland fire that claimed the lives of at least 91 people in the Greek village of Mati on July 23, has already sparked a lawsuit by the relatives of two of the victims. The victims, 70-year-old Vassilis Katsargyris and 73-year-old Maria Pagomenou were trying to evacuate their home in the neighborhood of Neos Voutzas when they were trapped by the fire.

25 L’Enfant Plaza Smoke Incident Suits Dismissed

Twenty-five of over 100 suits against the District of Columbia and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority arising out of the L’Enfant Plaza smoke incident were dismissed last Thursday. The Jan. 12, 2015 incident occurred when power cables begin emitting large quantities of smoke inside a tunnel just south of L’Enfant Plaza station.
