The family of Hartford firefighter Kevin Bell has agreed to settle a wrongful death lawsuit they filed against the city and three fire officers for $350,000. Bell died on October 7, 2014 when he became separated from his crew during rapid fire development.

Turkish LODD Prompts Lawsuit

The family of a Turkish fire captain killed in a bizarre roof collapse caused by a helicopter water-drop, has filed suit against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Captain Hayati Gökcan was killed on June 4, 2015 after 10 tons of water was dumped from a height of 70 meters on the roof of a burning warehouse in which he was operating.

Family of Deceased Firefighter Sues Homeowner for Wrongful Death

The family of a firefighter who was killed at a house fire last year in Woodstock, New York, has filed suit against the owner of the house alleging negligence and wrongful death. Jack Rose, 19, a volunteer firefighter with the Mount Marion Fire Department, died on December 19, 2015, at chimney fire in Woodstock. Rose had recently been elected captain.

Oklahoma LODD Prompts Wrongful Death Suit

The widow of an Oklahoma firefighter who drown last year in floodwaters has filed a wrongful death suit against the city. Claremore Fire Captain Jason Farley died on May 23, 2015 when he was pulled into a flooded storm drain while at the scene of a water rescue.

Black Sunday Firefighters Awarded $183 Million

A Bronx jury has awarded three firefighters and the families of two deceased firefighters $183 million in damages stemming from the Black Sunday fire. The January 23, 2005 fire trapped six firefighters on the top floor of a building from which they were forced to jump 40-50 feet.

Families of Houston LODDs Sue Motorola and Scott

The families of three Houston firefighters killed in the 2013 Southwest Inn fire have filed another wrongful death lawsuit, this time naming Motorola and Scott Safety as defendants. The suit filed Monday accuses Motorola and Scott of negligence, gross negligence and product liability for selling products that are dangerously defective and contain design defects.

The family of a Chicago firefighter killed on December 14, 2015 has filed suit against the owners of the warehouse where he died. Daniel Capuano, 42, a 16 year veteran, died when he fell down an open elevator shaft in the vacant building.

Alabama Rescue Captain Indicted In LODD Drowning of Subordinate

An Alabama rescue squad captain has been charged criminally with negligent homicide over the death of a squad member last April during a water rescue. Michael Ervin Bettis has been indicted on one count of negligent homicide. The charge arises out of the death of Vicky Houston Ryan. Both Bettis and Ryan were members of the Etowah County Rescue Squad.
