Two Mobile Captains File Suit Claiming Race Discrimination

Two African-American captains with the Mobile Fire Department who were disciplined after coming to the defense of an African-American female firefighter who was being investigated for a tattoo, have filed suit claiming race discrimination and retaliation. The suit was filed by Captain Jason Craig and Captain Rodrick Shoots, Sr. in US District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

A lawsuit filed by an Alabama firefighter who claims his termination was due to his race and military service, has been dismissed. Deatri J. Larry filed suit in 2019 claiming his salary was reduced, he was passed over for promotion, and he was ultimately terminated after returning from a combat deployment.

Mobile Fire Investigating Allegations of Sexual Misconduct

Mobile Fire-Rescue is investigating allegations by a female firefighter that a fire captain inappropriately touched her in the fire station while on duty. According to WKRG, the both the city and the US Department of Justice are investigating the allegations that reportedly occurred in December, 2021.
