Former Marine Claims FDNY Colleagues Mocked His Military Service and PTSD

A former Marine captain who was hired in 2019 by FDNY has filed suit claiming that he was hazed during his initial assignment and retaliated against when he complained. Charles Hughes filed suit last month in US District Court for the Eastern District of New York alleging an assortment of federal and state law discrimination claims.

FDNY Prevails in Second Discrimination Suit by Gordon Springs

An FDNY firefighter who filed suit in 2017 alleging he was sexually harassed and discriminated against on account of his race, has had a second lawsuit against the department and several of his colleagues dismissed. Gordon Springs claims he was sexual assaulted in 2015 at the Midtown Manhattan station nicknamed The Cavemen.

FDNY EMS Workers Claim Retaliation For Speaking to Media

Four FDNY EMS workers and their union have filed suit against the City of New York and Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro claiming they were retaliated against for speaking to the news media. AFSCME Local 2507, Elizabeth Bonilla, Alexander Nunez, Megan Pfeiffer, and John Rugen filed suit in federal court.

FDNY Prevails in Wrongful Death Suit, No Special Duty

A wrongful death lawsuit against FDNY over the failure to transport a woman to the hospital, has been dismissed. The suit was filed by Anthony Pioli on behalf of the estate of his mother, Anna Pioli, who died in 2016.

An FDNY firefighter is facing charges that he brazenly stole a $2,500 pickup truck bed cover while on duty last week. Aleksandr Swieszek, 40, a firefighter assigned to Engine Company 206 in Brooklyn, is charged with grand larceny and criminal possession stolen property.

FDNY Prevails in Gas Explosion Lawsuit

A lawsuit filed against FDNY over a 2014 gas explosion on Staten Island has been dismissed. The suit alleged that firefighters allowed a homeowner to enter his gas filled home, and trigger the explosion by turning on a light switch.

Court Rules FDNY Must Accommodate Facial Hair Despite OSHA

A federal judge has ruled that FDNY must reinstate an accommodation granted to African American firefighters suffering from Pseudofolliculitis Barbae that permits facial hair in the chin, cheek and neck area provided it does not cause leakage around the mask's seal. The firefighters filed suit in 2018 alleging race and disability discrimination.

FDNY Gets Split Decision in Trademark Suit

A federal court has upheld in part and denied in part a trademark infringement suit brought by the City of New York against a vendor who refused to stop selling FDNY and NYPD t-shirts and memorabilia. The city sued Blue Rage, Inc. doing business as The Cop Shop alleging it sold “a wide variety of unlicensed, infringing merchandise bearing the NYPD and FDNY Trademarks.”

Fire Victims’ Family Seeks $2.2 Billion from New York City

An attorney representing the daughter of a woman who died in a fire along with her five children, has filed a claim with the city of New York for $2.2 billion alleging the city did not do enough to protect them as residents in a public housing project. Attorney Evan Oshan filed the claim on behalf of Raven Reyes, the daughter of Andrea Pollidore.
