The Second Circuit has upheld the suspension without pay, and in some cases the dismissal, of some 86 FDNY firefighters who refused to comply with the city’s vaccine mandate in 2021. The firefighters alleged that the city’s failure to bargain over the vaccine mandate, coupled with the failure to comply with the city’s normal disciplinary requirements, constituted a violation of their due process rights.

The suit follows three years of labor-management discord resulting in over 45 grievances, and three unfair labor practices charges against the city.

The daughter of a man who died last November, is seeking $100 million in damages against the Rialto Fire Department claiming medics wrongfully refused to enter a medical facility due to concerns over COVID. Joseph Angulo, 56, died on November 17, 2021.

A firefighters’ union and a union representing state troopers along with individual members have filed suit against Oregon Governor Katherine Brown and the state alleging the recently announced vaccine mandate is illegal under state and federal law. Kingsley Firefighters Association, Inc. and the Oregon Fraternal Order of Police filed suit in Jefferson County Circuit Court.

Sportsplex of Houston, Inc. filed suit yesterday naming the Houston Fire and Police departments.
