Insurer Sues Kentucky Fire Company Treasurer for Theft

The former treasurer of a Kentucky volunteer fire company who is already facing embezzlement charges is now being sued by the fire company’s insurer in an effort to recover the stolen funds.

Last year Terry Triplett, an assistant chief and treasurer for the Garrett Area Volunteer Fire Department in Floyd County was indicted on embezzlement charges for stealing over $123,000.  Investigators also found 800 pornographic videos on office computers and external hard drives.

The department’s insurer, American Alternatives Insurance Corporation, is now suing Triplett seeking to recover in excess of  $130,000 in damages. The complaint alleges fraud, breach of contract, and negligence.

Triplett’s family reported him missing in March of 2012, and his whereabouts are not known.
