Michigan Two Hatter Retaliation Suit Dismissed

A suit filed last year by a Michigan firefighter who was terminated for working in two fire departments has been voluntarily dismissed.

Thomas J. Saladino, a 23-year veteran of the Wyoming Fire Department who also served as the fire chief for Jamestown Township, filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Wyoming, Department of Public Safety Director James Carmody, City Manager Curtis Holt and other public-safety officials.

Chief Saladino had been terminated from the Wyoming Fire Department for continuing to work as chief in Jamestown after being refused permission to do so by Wyoming. According to the lawsuit, Chief Saladino played a leading role in lobbying efforts for the passage of a Two-Hatter protection law in 2014. The suit alleged that Carmody and Holt actively opposed the law, and terminated Chief Saladino in retaliation.

Chief Saladino voluntarily dismissed the last Friday. Mlive.com quoted Holt as saying “The City is pleased with Mr. Saladino’s decision to voluntarily dismiss his lawsuit.”
