Boston District Chief Sentenced to Probation

Boston District Chief Edward Scigliano IV, 46, who was convicted earlier this month of stealing $46,000 from the city was today sentenced to three years of probation, 750 hours of community service, and ordered to pay restitution to the city within two years.

Scigliano was convicted of procurement fraud and larceny for his involvement in dealings with city contractors. Attorney General Maura Healey was quoted as saying “This defendant abused his position as a public employee by stealing tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars that should have gone to serving the residents of the City of Boston.”

Michael Doolin, who represented Scigliano, was quoted as saying that judge’s sentence reflected his client’s “significant service that he had given to the community in the past. I thought it was a tremendously well-reasoned sentencing.”

Scigliano remains on an unpaid leave of absence from the Boston Fire Department. More on the story.
