Wrongful Death Suit Blames Delayed Response of St. Louis Medic Unit

The City of St. Louis and two fire department EMTs are facing a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the sister of a man who died in 2021. Sharon LaRue claims that St. Louis Fire Department Medic 32 was dispatched for her brother, who has been struck by a vehicle. She further claims that Medic 32 stopped after being struck by a rock.

A lawsuit filed by 140 black St. Louis firefighters challenging the promotional test for captain and battalion chief has been settled with a comprehensive agreement to overhaul the promotional process. The suit was filed in state court by the 140 named firefighters and the Firefighters Institute for Racial Equality alleging that the 2013 promotional process was racially discriminatory.

The St. Louis Fire Department has settled a public records lawsuit brought by activists seeking access to information about medical responses to a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic. The lawsuit was filed in 2013 under Missouri’s Sunshine Law, seeking records of emergency medical incidents at the Planned Parenthood of Greater St. Louis abortion facility.

St. Louis Firefighters Sue Over Race Discrimination in Promotions

A group of 140 St. Louis firefighters are suing over alleged race discrimination in the fire department’s promotional process. The 140 named plaintiffs are all members of F.I.R.E., and candidates for promotion to either captain or battalion chief. The suit alleges that in some cases their exam scores were deliberately altered.
