Virginia Firefighters Seek $1.5 Billion from PFAS Companies

Six Virginia firefighters and the estate of a deceased firefighter have filed suit against 25 companies associated with per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) seeking $1.5 Billion in damages. A lawsuit has been filed by an insurer over a fire that destroyed a West Virginia fire truck in 2019. The Arch Insurance Co. filed suit this month against Shaffer Ford and Ford Motor Company for the destruction of a 2004 Ford F-Super Duty 550 owned by the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department.

A Florida firefighter has filed suit against a group of aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) manufacturers contending that exposure to their products caused her breast cancer. Debbie Rittinghouse, who served with Broward County Fire Rescue from 1994 to 2018, filed suit against 17 current and former AFFF manufacturers.

Motorola Sued for $145 Million Over Death of Houston Fire Captain

The widow of a Houston fire captain who was seriously injured in the Southwest Inn fire in 2013, and who died in 2017, has filed suit against Motorola Solutions, Inc. alleging deficiencies in the radio system contributed to her husband’s injuries and ultimately his death. Jacki Dowling filed suit in Harris County District Court on February 18, 2019.
