Twice Fired New Mexico Firefighter Sues County

A former Albuquerque firefighter who was fired for hanging up on a frantic 911 caller in 2015 because the caller swore at him, is filing suit against the Bernalillo County Fire Department who hired and then abruptly fired him. Matthew Sanchez was fired by the Albuquerque Fire Department shortly after the shooting death of 17 year-old Jaydon Chavez-Silver.

A Texas fire chief who was terminated for allegedly overspending his budget, has filed suit alleging wrongful termination and defamation. Fire Chief Landon Smith was terminated earlier this month by the City of Van Alstyne because he allegedly overspent the fire department's budget by $180,000.

NH Fire Chief Reinstated Despite Ruling

In a move that took many by surprise, the New Hampshire fire chief who lost his bid in court to retain his position, has been reinstated as fire chief. On Monday, Board of Selectmen of the Town of New Durham voted 2-1 to reappoint Peter Varney as fire chief. Chief Varney was removed back in 2014 without notice or a hearing.

Massachusetts Suit Removed to Federal Court

A lawsuit filed last month in state court by four Massachusetts firefighters has been removed to federal court by attorneys retained for the defense by the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Agency. The suit was filed on September 2, 2014 by four former members of the Groton Fire Department.
