Winston-Salem Fire Sued For Race Discrimination

Five members of an African-American firefighter organization called Omnibus have filed suit against the city of Winston-Salem and its fire chief alleging race discrimination and retaliation. Thomas Penn Jr., Delbert Hairston Jr., Gerrod Hardy, Ricky Brown, Eddie Forest filed suit on February 11, 2021 in US District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.

North Carolina Chief Sued in Accident Case

The fire chief of Winston-Salem, North Carolina has become embroiled in a strange suit by a woman who claims that the fire chief’s personal vehicle struck her vehicle last March and kept on going. Katrina Newton claims she was driving her vehicle on March 26 when dark-colored Dodge pickup hit her vehicle causing severe damage.

NC OSHA Cites Fire Department

The Winston-Salem Fire Department has been cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Division of the North Carolina Department of Labor over three OSHA violations. Two of the citations were considered serious, incurring $3250 fines each. The third was consider not serious and no fine was imposed.
