Court Rejects Suit Against Illinois Firefighters Over Photo Taken of Shooting Victim

A lawsuit filed against two Cicero Fire Department paramedics and a retired lieutenant for taking and sharing a photo of a victim who was shot at a Black Lives Matter protest in 2020, has been dismissed. The suit was brought by the family of Victor Cazares, who was shot and killed while trying to protect a local grocery store from rioters on June 1, 2020.

Family of LA County Firefighter Murdered on Duty Sues Estate of Firefighter-Shooter

The parents of a Los Angeles County firefighter who was shot and killed by a coworker while on duty earlier this year, have filed suit against the estate of the firefighter-shooter. Tory Carlon was shot and killed while on duty at LA County Station 81 on June 1, 2021 by Jonathan Patrick Tatone.

Mother of CHOP Shooting Victim Sues Seattle

The mother of a 19-year-old special needs man who was shot in the Seattle CHOP zone last summer, has filed suit against the city of Seattle claiming that medics failure to come to his aid led to his death. Donnitta Sinclair filed suit last week in federal court claiming the intentional and negligent conduct of the city caused the death of her son, Horace Lorenzo Anderson, Jr.

Judge Dismisses Suit Over Kentucky Firefighter Who Shot Prisoner

A lawsuit that accused a Kentucky firefighter of wrongfully shooting and killing a prisoner while the man was struggling for control of a police officer’s weapon, has been dismissed. Ali Sawaf, the father of Mark S. Sawaf, filed suit last year claiming that Lexington Fire Captain Brad Dobrzynski was wrong for shooting his son on August 11, 2016

Twice Fired New Mexico Firefighter Sues County

A former Albuquerque firefighter who was fired for hanging up on a frantic 911 caller in 2015 because the caller swore at him, is filing suit against the Bernalillo County Fire Department who hired and then abruptly fired him. Matthew Sanchez was fired by the Albuquerque Fire Department shortly after the shooting death of 17 year-old Jaydon Chavez-Silver.

New Mexico Firefighter Sued For Wrongful Death Over 911 Hangup

The parents of a youth who died following a drive-by shooting are suing the firefighter who hung up on a frantic 911 caller because the caller swore at him. Nicole Chavez and Ronald Silver filed suit last week against former Albuquerque firefighter Matthew Sanchez personally.

Pennsylvania Fire Law: Criminal Edition

Two criminal cases from Pennsylvania are in the fire law news today. Both involve 21-year-old volunteer firefighters. In Redstone Township, fire captain George A. Matis stands charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of junior firefighter Parker Hess in the fire station.

Firefighter Shoots Station Commander

A South African firefighter has been accused of shooting and killing his station commander. Platoon Commander Lesedi Mphatswe of the Johannesburg Emergency Services Management, was shot and killed at the home of a firefighter as he was delivering a disciplinary summons. Commander Mphatswe was a 20 year veteran.
