North Carolina Division Chief Files Sexual Harassment Suit

A North Carolina division chief who retired earlier this year, has filed suit alleging she had been sexually harassed and discriminated against. Division Chief Joy Ponder filed suit in US District Court for the Western District of North Carolina against the City of Ashville.

Mass Firefighter Sues for $2.75 Million Claiming Gender Discrimination

A Massachusetts firefighter is seeking $2.75 million in damages for sexual discrimination that led to her being passed over for promotion. Tracy Blanchette filed suit last week naming the City of Methuen and Fire Chief John T. Sheehy as defendants.

Chicago Fire Discrimination Suit to Proceed

In a ruling handed down yesterday, the City of Chicago was successful in getting part of a sexual discrimination suit brought against the fire department dismissed, but the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has ruled that a female fire-paramedic candidate who filed an earlier suit in 2016 will be allow to pursue certain of her claims in a second suit filed last year.

Houston Settles Sexual Harassment Suit for $275k

The City of Houston has agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by the US Department of Justice on behalf of a female firefighter alleging sexual harassment and retaliation. The settlement puts to rest a contentious case that originally involved two female firefighters that dates back to 2009.

Jury Awards San Jose BC $800k For Retaliation

A jury has awarded a San Jose battalion chief $800,000 for retaliation, while ruling in favor of the city on identical claims by a former fire captain.
