An assistant chief with a Minnesota fire department who was fired earlier this year has filed suit claiming his removal was retaliation for a protected whistleblower report he made. Shea Chwialkowski served as the Assistant Chief of Training & Operations for the Richfield Fire Department until he was terminated on March 29, 2023.

A Kansas firefighter who was terminated for violating the city’s residency policy, has lost his federal court lawsuit to get his job back. Todd Coleman was fired by the Kansas City Fire Department who claimed he spent more than 50% of his time outside of Wyandotte County.

A Kansas firefighter who was suspended without pay pending termination for violating a residency requirement, is now suing the department, his union, the union’s business manager, the union’s attorney and the union’s attorney’s law firm. Todd Coleman filed suit in US District Court last month.

Wilmington Settles Reverse Discrimination Claims

The City of Wilmington has agreed to settle the claims of five white firefighters who allege they were the victims of reverse discrimination in the enforcement of the city’s residency rule. Jonathan Hitch, Stephen Sherlock, Adam Risden, James Grieco, and Thomas Cunningham, filed a complaint with the EEOC in 2016.
