Stamford Settles Suit Clearing Way for Promotions

A lawsuit challenging changes to the promotional process within the Stamford Fire Department, has been settled. Lieutenants Kevin Dingle and Bruce Wagoner, and firefighters Robert Pickering and Brian Whitbread filed the suit in 2018 challenging the city’s use of rounding and/or banding scores on promotional exams in 2017.

Chicago Facing Suit For Military Discrimination

A Chicago firefighter, with the support of the US Department of Justice, has filed suit claiming the city’s refusal to accommodate his request to make-up a promotional exam when he returned from a military deployment violates the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.

Philadelphia Captain Loses Race Discrimination Suit Over BC Test

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Philadelphia captain who claims his test scores for promotion to battalion chief were tossed in retaliation for previous race discrimination claims he made. Captain James Williamson filed suit against the Philadelphia Fire Department last year claiming race discrimination and retaliation.
