Motorola Sued for $145 Million Over Death of Houston Fire Captain

The widow of a Houston fire captain who was seriously injured in the Southwest Inn fire in 2013, and who died in 2017, has filed suit against Motorola Solutions, Inc. alleging deficiencies in the radio system contributed to her husband’s injuries and ultimately his death. Jacki Dowling filed suit in Harris County District Court on February 18, 2019.

Families of Houston LODDs Sue Motorola and Scott

The families of three Houston firefighters killed in the 2013 Southwest Inn fire have filed another wrongful death lawsuit, this time naming Motorola and Scott Safety as defendants. The suit filed Monday accuses Motorola and Scott of negligence, gross negligence and product liability for selling products that are dangerously defective and contain design defects.

Colerain Township LODD Suit Reinstated by Appeals Court

A wrongful death suit brought by the parents of an Ohio fire captain that was dismissed in 2014, has been reinstated by an appellate court against three of the four original defendants. Colerain Township Captain Robin Broxterman and Firefighter Brian Schira died in a house fire on April 4, 2008. Prior to becoming trapped, Captain Broxterman encountered difficulty contacting her pump operator to have her line charged and later reporting a mayday over the county’s digital trunked radio system.
