Two Michigan fire departments who were being sued in federal court over an incident that led to the arrest of a homeowner, have been dismissed from the lawsuit. The Mount Pleasant City Fire Department and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribal Fire Department have been dismissed from a suit brought by Rickie Lee Beilicki, Jr. back in 2023.

A captain with the Patterson, New Jersey fire department has filed suit against the city, the mayor and the fire chief claiming he has been treated unfairly and denied a provisional promotion to battalion chief in retaliation for his complaining about the city’s failure to comply with certain legal requirements.

The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a district court ruling holding that the City of Loves Park, Illinois did not violate the Constitutional rights of a woman by forcing entry into her home, seizing 37 cats, and condemning her home. A key point in the ruling was the comment of Loves Park Fire Chief Philip Foley that the smell coming from the home could "gag a maggot."

The City of Lyndhurst, Ohio has prevailed in a lawsuit brought by an immigrant couple who were ordered by police and firefighters to stop cooking outside because the smoke was bothering their neighbors. Emad Alabasi and Yana Alabasi filed suit last October claiming national origin discrimination and various civil rights violations.

The victims of a house fire are suing Reno, Texas claiming that they were wrongfully barred from re-entering their home after the fire. John and Stephanie Toppings sued the City of Reno and Police Chief Matt Birch claiming an unconstitutional seizure.
