A Suffolk County Superior Court judge has refused the request of the City of Brookline, Massachusetts to stay a Massachusetts Civil Service Commission order to reinstate an African American firefighter who was terminated in 2016. Massachusetts Firefighter Terminated Amidst Allegations of Discrimination

A Brookline firefighter who is suing the fire department for race discrimination has been terminated following a public hearing before the town’s Board of Selectmen. Gerald Alston was fired at the hearing today. He had been out of work since May of 2012, and filed suit against the city last December claiming he was the victim of blatant race discrimination and retaliation.

Brookline Firefighter’s Discrimination Suit Joined By Others

A Massachusetts firefighter who is suing his fire department and union for race discrimination, has been joined by two police officers and five other town employees who also allege race discrimination. Gerald Alston filed suit against the Town of Brookline, the Board of Selectmen, IAFF Local 950, and several others claiming race discrimination.
