Nebraska City Settles Second of Three Harassment Suits for $500k

The City of Lincoln, Nebraska has settled a second lawsuit brought by an officer alleging retaliation for reporting harassment of female firefighters. Captain Brian Giles will be receiving $500,000 in settlement of his federal lawsuit that claimed he was passed over for promotion to battalion chief on account of his having reported sexual harassment.

Nebraska Firefighter Awarded $1.2 million For Retaliation

The first of three Nebraska firefighters who are suing the City of Lincoln, has been awarded $1.2 million by a federal court jury. Captain Troy Hurd claims he was subjected to a series of disciplinary charges by ranking officers after he complained about instructors harassing recruits on the basis of their gender and national origin.

Nebraska Firefighter Files Sexual Discrimination Suit

A Nebraska firefighter has filed suit alleging she has been discriminated against and harassed on account of her gender, and then retaliated against after she reported the discrimination. Amanda Benson, a firefighter with Lincoln Fire and Rescue, filed suit in state court against the City of Lincoln, the mayor, the public safety director, the HR director, the fire chief, two BCs, and two captains.
