Fired Georgia Chief Sues Over Intercepted Electronic Communications

A Georgia fire chief who was terminated last year after refusing to resign, has filed suit naming the City of Monroe, the city manager and the police chief as defendants. Fire Chief William Owens filed suit accusing the city of violating his constitutional rights, illegally intercepting electronic communications in violation of Georgia law, whistleblower retaliation, and invasion of privacy.

California Fire Chief Sues for Wrongful Termination

A California fire chief who was terminated last year has filed suit alleging wrongful termination and an assortment of employment related counts. Larry Whithorn, who was promoted to fire chief in West Covina in December, 2014, was terminated by the city on April 22, 2019.

Texas Whistleblower Suit Removed to Federal Court

A whistleblower lawsuit filed earlier this year by a fired Texas firefighter, has been removed to federal court. Todd Anthony Foust was terminated last year by the City of Corinth and the Lake Cities Fire Department. He claims that he was terminated in retaliation for complaints he made about firefighters using tobacco products as well as complaints he made about his captain.

Louisiana Firefighter Files For Whistleblower Protection

A St. Tammany Parish firefighter who accused his fire chief of misconduct and was then himself placed under investigation, has filed suit alleging whistleblower retaliation. Fire District 12 firefighter Thomas Williamson accused Fire Chief Stephen Krentel with stealing department air conditioning units and having an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate.

Demotion of Salt Lake Fire Marshal Overturned

The Salt Lake City Civil Service Commission has overturned the demotion of Fire Marshal Martha Ellis, finding that the city wrongly demoted her in last year. Chief Ellis was demoted from battalion chief to captain for an "apparent lack of engagement with [her] current assignment, a lack of ownership of [her] job responsibilities, an inability or unwillingness to follow instructions ..."
