The union president of IAFF Local 3214 has filed suit in federal court alleging the Mountain View Fire Protection District fired him in retaliation for his union activities, and did so in a way that violated his Constitutional Rights. Benjamin Carter was fired on March 21, 2023.

Federal Court Dismisses Challenge to False Alarm Fee Ordinance

A local ordinance that imposes fines against alarm companies for repeated false alarms has been upheld by a federal court in Georgia. The suit involved an ordinance enacted in 2017 by the City of Sandy Springs that created a fee schedule for alarm companies whose customers transmitted false alarms to the police or fire departments.

Trial Court Renders Split Decision to Kelvin Cochran And Atlanta

The trial judge in the case of former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran handed down her long-awaited ruling this week, and it was a split decision. Chief Cochran was terminated in 2014 after he published a religious-themed book in conjunction with his ministry that many considered to be offensive to the LGBT community.

Cincinnati Chief Sues Over Promotion

Cincinnati is facing a lawsuit by one of its district chiefs who claims he was passed over for promotion twice and labeled a troublemaker because he reported possible wrongdoing by other chiefs. District Chief Raffel Prophett filed suit last week naming City Manager Harry Black individually and in his capacity as city manager.

A Georgia firefighter who was terminated after he complained about the actions of the fire chief at the scene of a fire that killed a fire lieutenant, has filed suit against the chief, the fire department and other local officials. William Jordan claims his termination from the Waycross Fire Department in 2016 was retaliation.

Texas Firefighter Loses Suit Over Discrimination and Due Process

A McAllen, Texas firefighter who was fired twice and reinstated both times has lost a discrimination and due process lawsuit against his department and fire chief. Last February, Robert Vargus sued McAllen and Chief Rafael Balderas alleging discrimination and harassment on account of age and disability and §1983 due process violations.
