A South Carolina man who is facing homicide charges has filed a rather unconventional civil rights lawsuit against first responders: he is claiming he is the victim of their failure to provide adequate medical care to the victim. Thomas Reginald Brooks filed suit pro se against nineteen defendants, including Sumter County EMS, the Sumter Police Department, and the Sumter Fire Department.

Sixty Colorado residents have filed a pro-se lawsuit against the state, El Paso County, and the Black Forest Fire District over the Black Forest Fire that occurred in June, 2013. The fire, which the suit claims began in part due to a controlled burn, consumed 15,000 acres, destroyed over 500 homes, and killed two people.

The Chicago Fire Department is facing a sexual harassment suit that goes right to the top of the organization: former fire commissioner John Brooks. Former payroll auditor Deidre Green claims Commissioner Brooks pursued her sexually and then targeted her for a layoff when she refused his advances.
