A lawsuit filed by two unsuccessful candidates for the New Haven Fire Department has been dismissed. Tanisha Hill and Michael Terrell Banks filed suit last year alleging that the city’s decision to break a tie of 99 first place candidates by a lottery was illegal.

A lawsuit filed by five members of the New Haven Fire Department claiming the city failed to comply with an MOU on promotions, has been dismissed. Harry Bosley, Ernest Jones, Josue Vega, Jr., Christian Cordero, and Ian Cordero claimed the city was not complying with promotional timelines specified in a 2017 memorandum of understanding between IAFF Local 825 and the city.

A New Haven fire lieutenant along with thirty firefighter-candidates have filed suit to block the city’s plans to use a lottery to break a tie between 99 applicants who scored 100 on a civil service hiring test. With Lieutenant Samod Rankins serving as the lead plaintiff, the suit was filed today in New Haven Superior Court.

The City of New Haven, Connecticut is facing a class action lawsuit filed by 174 present and former firefighters alleging a violation of the FLSA in terms of how much they were paid for overtime hours. The suit alleges that New Haven miscalculated the firefighters’ “regular rate” by not including “certification pay, education incentive pay, acting pay, haz-mat pay, and longevity pay” in the regular rate.
