Sexual Harassment Suit by SC Firefighter Removed to Federal Court

A sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a female firefighter in South Carolina has been removed to US District Court. Rebecca Sterner filed suit late in 2020 naming the Goose Creek Rural Volunteer Fire Department, Fire Chief Robert Maibach, Battalion Chief Gary Melton, and Lieutenant Steve Varlas as defendants.

Female FDNY EMT Claims Gender Discrimination By Female Chief

An FDNY EMT has filed a gender discrimination lawsuit accusing a female deputy chief of going on a campaign to damage her career. Margot Loth filed suit on Saturday in US District Court for the Southern District of New York. The suit claims that Deputy Chief Donna Tiberi engaged in repeated acts of discrimination against Loth.

Chicago Fire Discrimination Suit to Proceed

In a ruling handed down yesterday, the City of Chicago was successful in getting part of a sexual discrimination suit brought against the fire department dismissed, but the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has ruled that a female fire-paramedic candidate who filed an earlier suit in 2016 will be allow to pursue certain of her claims in a second suit filed last year.

The City of Lincoln, Nebraska has settled a second lawsuit brought by an officer alleging retaliation for reporting harassment of female firefighters. Captain Brian Giles will be receiving $500,000 in settlement of his federal lawsuit that claimed he was passed over for promotion to battalion chief on account of his having reported sexual harassment.
