Mobile Firefighter Terminated Over Tattoo Files Discrimination Suit

The Mobile firefighter who was fired last year over a tattoo, has filed suit against the city alleging race, gender, sexual orientation and religion discrimination; hostile work environment; retaliation; and violation of the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment. Kay’Ana Adams filed suit today in US District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

Sexual Harassment Suit Against VFD Settled for $425k

A $425,000 settlement has been reached in a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by a former firefighter in Harrison, New York. The lawsuit was filed last year by the US Department of Justice on behalf of Angela Bommarito, naming Town of Harrison, its police chief, Harrison Volunteer Fire Department No. 1, and Fire District Number Two of Harrison.

Fifth Circuit Upholds Termination of Texas Captain

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that a fire department’s use of the Navy’s Physical Fitness Standard did not discriminate against a Texas fire captain. Rachael Crivelli filed suit against Montgomery County Emergency Services District No. 7 after she was fired for “repeatedly failing the new physical fitness assessment.”

Oregon Fire District Sued for Sexual Harassment and Retaliation

Two female staff members of an Oregon fire district who were laid-off in February, 2023, have filed suit claiming the layoff was thinly-disguised retaliation for complaints they had made about sexual harassment and financial mismanagement. His Magesty’s Report on Values and Culture in Fire and Rescue Services

A report by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services has concluded that bullying, harassment, and discrimination are widespread in the 44 fire service organizations in England. Titled Values and Culture in Fire and Rescue Services, the 59 page report reaches a blunt conclusion: “It is time for this behaviour to stop.”

An assistant chief in Texas who was terminated in 2021 has filed suit alleging gender discrimination. Assistant Chief/Director of Communications Elisa Noriega filed suit today naming the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department and Montgomery County ESD No. 10 as defendants.
