NY Volunteer Pleads Guilty to Stealing $5.6 Million from Fire Company

In one of the largest cases of theft in the history of the volunteer fire service, the treasurer of the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department pled guilty today to numerous charges. Michael Klein was accused of embezzling over $5.6 million from the fire company over a thirteen-year period, starting in January 2002 until September 2015.

NC Chief Arrested for Embezzlement

A North Carolina fire chief has been arrested and charged with embezzling nearly $20,000 from his fire department. Jesse Raymon Hoshall, III was arrested last week by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. He was fire chief of the Scotch-Irish Fire Department, located in an unincorporated area in Rowan County called Woodleaf.

Connecticut Firefighter Charged With Embezzlement

A Connecticut firefighter has been charged with embezzling funds from his fire department’s cadet program. Jason Kordys was in charge of an Explorer program for the Wolcott Volunteer Fire Department. Kordys, 33, is accused of making 180 fraudulent transactions amounting to $2,948.29

Pennsylvania Chief Accepts Plea Deal For Theft

Embattled Wilkes-Barre Township Fire Chief John Yuknavich, facing both state and federal charges that he stole funds from his fire department, has agreed to plead guilty to the federal charges and resign as fire chief. Yuknavich has reportedly also agreed to reimburse the fire company for $45,000, the amount he is believed to have taken.
