Fire Department Sues Contractor Over Use of Toxic Fill at Firehouse

A New York volunteer fire company has filed a toxic tort suit against the contractors who were responsible for using contaminated fill during the construction of a new firehouse. The Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. filed suit in federal court against John J. Adorno, John J. Adorno, Inc. d/b/a Universal Construction, and Metro Green, LLC, seeking at least $1.75 million in damages.

The City of Los Angeles has agreed to accept $400,000 from the developer of an apartment complex in settlement of what had been a $20 million lawsuit arising out of a 2014 fire. The fire destroyed the seven-story Da Vinci Apartment complex that was under construction at the time and damaged nearby buildings.

LA Sues Recycling Center for Fire Costs

The City of Los Angeles has filed suit against Clean Up America over the costs of battling a trash fire that took six weeks to fully extinguish. The company operates a recycling center that had a trash pile 25 feet high, 252 feet long and 250 feet wide, with an estimated 22 million pounds of trash.
