Virginia Court Rejects Application of Firefighter’s Rule

A Virginia court has rejected the claims of a waste management company that firefighters who were injured at a fire in 2017 are prohibited from suing by the Firefighter’s Rule. The suit was brought by firefighters Jeffrey W. Cockey and Andrew J. Neuhaus against Covanta Fairfax, Inc. alleging negligence and gross negligence.

Hartford LODD Suit Settled for $350k

The family of Hartford firefighter Kevin Bell has agreed to settle a wrongful death lawsuit they filed against the city and three fire officers for $350,000. Bell died on October 7, 2014 when he became separated from his crew during rapid fire development.

The widow of an Oklahoma firefighter who drown last year in floodwaters has filed a wrongful death suit against the city. Claremore Fire Captain Jason Farley died on May 23, 2015 when he was pulled into a flooded storm drain while at the scene of a water rescue.

Oklahoma Firefighter Sues Over Comp Related Wrongful Termination

An Oklahoma firefighter who was fired following an on-the-job injury has filed a wrongful termination suit. Robert Adair, who was a Special Operations Officer and Hazmat Director for the Muskogee Fire Department, was terminated March 21, 2014, after his doctor cleared his to return to work from a line-of-duty injury he sustained on March 12, 2012.
